Eat At Joe's - A $5,000 Spot

/ Comments (2)

This is an above average spot for a restaurant. But here's what caught our attention:

The story behind this from Adpulp.com says that the typical 30-second television spot costs about $130,000 to produce. They go on to say that this spot - with 20 shots and 40 actors would probably typically cost $200,000. However, because of the fact that this was shot with a digital camera and simple editing software, it actually only cost $5,000.

Message to the folks in California (and other areas where they're dropping an average of six figures on tv spot production: If you want cheaper commercial production without sacrificing quality, there are a few shops in Iowa we're guessing would like to talk with you!

There's lots of great quality here in town.

We, at Professional Video, put together this spot for approximately the same budget as the one above for a startup restaurant! We've also shot LOTS more footage for future commercials on the day of the shoot (cutting future costs)!

Nice work Mike. Seems there are mostly two types of clients in this market. Larger ones that are willing to spend the money to do a quality spot, but think they need to go to a bigger market to get that. And smaller advertisers who are enamored with the $500 station-produced spot which makes them look small, amateurish and cheesy. We need to do a better job of creating a middle ground here. We need to convince people that the talent is here - and that it's worth paying for a better product if you're going to spend the money to advertise.
