Des Moines Amplified

I've just recently discovered Des Moines Amplified. For those who don't know, it's a network of internet radio shows that broadcast from a studio in the skywalk at 7th and Locust.

Their website is www.desmoinesamplified.com

They have 60 shows on the network right now. Most are an hour long and most it seems do not have a large following. I was on Garden Grunt the other night and the host told me our highest number was 5 viewers.

Beyond the obvious (social networking, paid advertising) what can these shows do to increase viewership?

Thanks for the shout out Greg..and for crashing the show :)

Yes I only had 5 viewers the other night, but other shows it's varied more. I think that a lot of things factor into the "number" particularly MY number (I'm a newbie, maybe no one cares for gardening..) I hope I didn't give you a bad taste for what the clan at Worldwide Amplified is trying to accomplish.

As a host, I realize that my viewers may not be many LIVE, but that the real action is when the recorded video is viral. That's where I think the anticipation for the next show will stem from.

If anyone has ideas on how to spread the word...would love to hear em! Thanks Greg

Our thoughts:
Recorded shows need to be easy to find and easy to share.
Personalities have to be overly-passionate about their topic every single time they're on.
There's gotta either be controversy or humor. Those are the things people look for online.
Need to find a way to partner with some of the traditional media outlets. Possibly syndicate recorded content to one of them and allow them to sell advertising or sponsorships on it (it's all about the money).
Think globally. You may not have a huge following in your own niche right here in Des Moines, but there are surely enough enthusiasts across the country. Each show host has to find a way to reach that niche.
And of course, something like this might attract some extra eyeballs (we're just sayin' ... sex sells):

Guess I could wear my bikini next show...um...

Thanks for the insight DSM Egotist. Notes taken...mind running.

No bad taste at all, Katie! I can't wait until I can hit the airwaves again!

I think DSMAmplified's website needs serious improvement. For an already publicly maligned medium as internet radio is, they certainly aren't doing themselves any favors for having a website that looks straight out of 2002. That said, the fact that this organization exists has me on fire. I'm so excited to get on the air with them and talk with Bruce about their website.

Do you have any stats as to how many people watch the show after it's posted?

Putting the show on iTunes will also help spread it around. There needs to be a way to get it on people's mobile devices.

Sorry I'm all over the place. The coffee just kicked in and I'm off to the races.
